Symbols in My Book

November 26, 2008

The title of the book I read is called, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The author of the book is Robert Louis Stevenson. This book is about a man named Dr. Jekyll, who did an experiment to prove that there can be 2 persons in 1 body. 1 of them is the good; the other is the evil side. Then he realized that when he turns into his evil side, Mr. Hyde, he kept on hurting his friends, and almost everyone is aware of him.

I am going to enumerate 5 symbols in the story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. First, the happy and frown face, they represent the evil and good side in 1 body. Second, the red drug, it symbolizes that you can change either to your good or evil side. Third, the mirror in the story, you can see your-self in the evil side after taking the drug. Fourth, the newspaper, it represents events that happens today, or future events that will/might happen. Finally, the letter, it represents the proof or evidence that a person would leave before he/she dies.

These are the most common symbols in the book, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. It contains symbols for both good and evil.

The book also has symbols of what the good person did, like the poison; he drank it so that he will not turn into his evil side, and the letter leaves evidence for his/her friends to let them know what happened, or what they don’t know. My opinion of the book is that it is a nice book about how two forms in 1 body interact or change in different ways. We don’t have Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in us, because we only have our own good and bad sides in the inside. We can’t transform to our own good or evil sides.

 RATING:

8-marksFor good points, 8/10, because the story is good for those who are having trouble when they are in their bad side.

For bad points, 2/10, because the story tells what evil people do.  Like roaming around the streets in the night, hurting people in your way, and the story may be a bit boring for others.
